Information on Bus Travel in Brazil

Comfort categories

Long-distance bus services are available in different comfort classes, from basic buses called "Convencional" to luxurious buses of the "Leito" class. The Brazilean regulatory authority ANTT has proposed the following classification and specifications:

Convencional

These basic buses are offered with or without toilet department ("com ou sem sanitário"), and the seats possess the following minimum characteristics:

  • depth: 42cm
  • width: 45cm
  • two levels of inclination, maximum angle 35 degrees to the vertical
  • distance between seats: 70cm

Executivo

All "executive" buses have a toilet department, air conditioning, a sound and video system, and a minibar with cold and hot drinks. Seating comfort is also slightly improved:

  • depth: 45cm
  • width: 45cm
  • three levels of inclination, maximum angle 40 degrees to the vertical
  • distance between seats: 80cm

Semi-Leito

These buses offer the same amenities as "executivos" but are equipped with better seats:

  • width: 49cm
  • three levels of inclination, maximum angle 55 degrees to the vertical
  • distance between seats: 90cm
  • leg rests

Leito

The best services are called "leito" and offer the highest level of comfort. Only three rows of seats are present, with at least the following specifications for the seats:

  • depth: 45cm
  • width: 59cm
  • four levels of inclination, maximum angle 80 degrees to the vertical
  • distance between seats: 105cm
